To celebrate 6 years of hosting Calgary’s only all-female skateboarding competition, See Jane Skate is teaming up once again with Westside Recreation Centre to offer the best in skateboarding, music and entertainment for all ages.
This year we are stoked to welcome the Skate Like A Girl and Rugged Riders girls crew, who are touring from San Francisco through to Winnipeg to compete in the “Chicks Flip Out” contest on August 15th. The girls skate tour will be stopping in Calgary specifically to participate in See Jane Skate 2009, and their talented riders will be a HUGE addition to this years’ event! Check out chicksflipout.com and skatelikeagirl.com for more details.
Talented female skaters from all over Canada will battle for CASH PRIZES, along with girl DJ’s and MC’s, a B-Girls Breakin’ Showcase for female break dancers and PRIZE GIVEAWAYS for everyone - and, as always, it’s all FREE!
“We had such a great turnout last year at Westside, and we are super stoked to have Skate Like A Girl and Rugged Riders join us this year” said Anne Klazek, Founder and Director of See Jane Skate. “Our goal is to provide an equal opportunity for all girl skaters to participate no matter what their ability level, and since every girl wins tons of prizes the competition is friendly and positive”.

MORE DETAILS TO FOLLOW - keep checking the website for competition info.

See Jane Skate will also be hosting the first of many “GIRLS SKATE SESSIONS” this summer on Vancouver Island. These interactive skate clinics for beginners will show girls ages 5-17 the basics of skateboarding, with a focus on safety and a positive introduction into the sport.
The first Girls Skate Session will be held in Tofino, BC on Saturday, July 25th 2009. Please email anne@seejaneskate.com for registration information.

5th Annual Event Turns Up The Heat!

August 27th, 2008

A BIG thank you to all who came out and supported the 5th Annual Girls Skateboard Competition!

Over 200 spectators cheered on 8 amazing female competitors at the Westside Recreation Centre park, and the skill level was the highest ever in the history of the event - these ladies keep getting better and better!

Bgirls Leslie Quik, Rhemix, Estaria, Mission and Mel brought on their best moves despite the 32 degree heat, and MC Politique Queen performed some sick rhymes for the crowd while DJ MollyFi spun an intense set of hip hop and funk.

The event was featured on the front page of 24 magazine (with Tenia Lasaga busting a kick flip while smiling for the camera!) as well as on Telus TV.

CONGRATULATIONS go to Laura Sliva, first place winner in the 18+ category for the second year in a row, and to Kassy Bailey who took first in the U17 category. Full contest placings are below and THANK YOU to all the girls who skated - without you, this event could not continue to give females a chance to build their skills and grow the community of women skaters!

PHOTOS will be added shortly and check out the Facebook Group
‘See Jane Skate’ for VIDEO of the event.

Stayed tuned for more updates…we are already looking forward to next year!
